Mark was a great guy whose time was short and will be missed!

Mark’s passing has left a huge whole in my heart, as well as many others. I believe it’s so difficult because he had a way to make everyone feel like they were his best friend. How can one man be so close with so many people when there is only 24 hours in a day?!
I was lucky enough to call Mark my family. As my father in law, or our nickname for him D2 (Dad 2) and me D1 (Daughter 1), I got 10 amazing, fun-filled years with him and the Hanson clan. Mark was the first person of Josh’s family I met. As he picked us up from Love Field Airport for Christmas in 2014 he immediately welcomed me into the family, and I immediately felt like family.
Mark was our fearless leader. A man that wore many hats, but I think one of his best (and I think he would think so too) was that of Grandpa. He was the most active, supporting, loving, funny Grandpas I’ve ever seen and I’m glad Stella had him for 5 years. Of course we wish she would’ve had him for 20, but he packed in enough memories in those 5 years to last a lifetime. I’m glad we moved close to Mark and Wendi so we could get 10x more memories, visits, and adventures with them. Those memories we will cherish forever, and will help keep Mark/Grandpa/D2’s legacy going forever.
I love you D2, forever and always <3

What a beautiful & eloquent tribute Caitlin, and I’m so sorry for yours and your family’s huge loss! Mark was larger than life and as you said, made everyone feel like a special and forever friend! We bonded at Verizon over our love of our Packers, WI, the PNW and the water!
He was always excited about his life and endeavors and particularly excited to talk about his precious Stella Amery, middle-named for one of our WI towns, where he may have been born, if I’m remembering correctly? He sure loves that little girl and eagerly shared photos of her! His grin always made me think he had such amazing and special things going on in his life and was filled with joy! His presence in our office was so calming, steady and friendly!
He became family to me the minute we found we were both Cheeseheads! Such a special man and incredible soul! He now has the “best seat in the house” to cheer on our Packers!
Sending much love, hugs and prayers for peace and comfort to you all, Caitlin! Go Pack Go! 💚💛 Cheers Mark!

Mark’s time with us was far too brief, but the legacy he leaves is profound.
Every beat he played, every wave he admired, every laugh he shared—all these moments have woven themselves into the fabric of our lives.
May we all never forget the joy he brought, the music he created, and the kindness he shared so freely.
And though we can no longer see him, I know he is with us—in the music, in the water, and in the love he left behind.

I have known Mark for 20+ years, and he was much more than a coworker to me. He was a friend, a mentor, an extraordinary human being who treated everyone with respect. Mark was always full of life, always positive, and always always full of energy. He loved his family very much, and he was a very proud grandpa, to say the least…!
Mark was a true leader, not just in title, but in action. He defended his team fiercely and cared deeply for those around him. He was the person you could always turn to for advice, support, or just a casual chat, and he always made you feel heard and valued. Nothing ever seemed to stop him; his resilience and determination were truly inspiring.
During our work journey we would meet for social outings from time to time. Mark enjoyed his wine, and loved talking about his retirement plans relocating to Washington State, and sailing the seas with his amazing wife Wendi. These conversations and fun time memories will always keep you alive in my heart Mark!
He left a lasting impact on everyone he met, and his memory will continue to inspire me and so many others. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy as a friend, a leader, and a remarkable person will remain in our hearts forever.
We miss you Mark!

Mark was hands down the coolest of my friends’ dads and knew how to live life to the fullest. I know he will be missed and loved by his family and friends as his memory lives on. I’ll always be grateful that he raised a great son that became one of my best friends.
